Mountain bikes have been employed in law enforcement for years as a method of getting to places that a cruiser can't go more quickly than an officer could run or walk.
The Mountain Bike Unit allows us to be able to deal with the many social decay problems that people in our town report.
Things such as underage drinking in wooded areas can now be investigated efficiently. Also the bike lends a certain element of stealth to the officer. They are quiet and can go almost anywhere.
Officers wear special uniforms that up close identify them as police, but from a distance make them look like anyone. Such a tool is useful in drug operations and interdiction.

Every Saturday from the spring until fall the Stoughton Police Sponsor free mountain bike rides for kids middle and high school aged, we even provide the bikes and helmets!
Riders should be prepared for a difficult ride and should arrive at the Stoughton Police Station at 9 AM for a bike. Bikes are then loaded on to a trailer by our officers and we take the participants to a different locale each week for the best in outdoor sports.
For more information contact Officers Faria or Tracey at 781-344-2424 or 781-344-3482.
